This week’s 30-second interview is with celebrity facialist Lisa Harris, who counts Amanda Holden, Kylie Minogue, and Lizzie Cundy among her clients.
How and when did the business start?
My story began 27 years ago. After suffering from acne as a teenager, I was constantly looking for the best remedies to help treat my skin. During this time, I have developed a real passion for skin care. I first graduated as a Beauty and Holistic Therapist and quickly concluded that I wanted to learn more, improving my skills in skin health and wellness.
In 10 years, I graduated in medical aesthetics, sports therapy, holistic therapies: aromatherapy, reflexology, kinesiology and laser technology.
Following this, I moved to Canada, specializing in holistic therapies. Healthy skin is a reflection of overall well-being – it’s a balance between what you put in and on your body. During this time, I learned about the power of ingredients.
When I returned to the UK I deduced that if I was to continue my own business I had to acquire business acumen and spent the following years working for global brands – Johnson & Johnson and RoC – using my experience and ideas, while demonstrating my facial exercises to support innovative new product launches.
After 12 years, I felt that I had formed a complete knowledge base. I have also had the benefit and experience of working with some of the best in class in clinical management. In 2006, I founded Lisa Harris Skincare Science, initially focused on providing natural skin care solutions. In 2009, I established a clinical salon in Weybridge, Surrey, and opened a second location in London in 2015, in partnership with Dr Hilary Jones MBE.
What are you most proud of having achieved?
I pride myself on staying true to my beliefs about the importance of natural skin care and using alternative treatments to create healthier skin without the use of harsh chemicals, Botox, or fillers.
I am proud to have built a wealth of clients who come back to me again and again. A lot of them are celebrities, but all of them are just as important to me. I pride myself on having an excellent reputation locally, nationally and globally, and have many clients who come from overseas to visit me.
How has Covid-19 impacted the business?
The Covid-19 has had a huge impact on the business financially. It forced me to develop new ways of working and to continue to help my clients
I used social media to stay in touch with customers and also conducted Zoom consultations, as well as door-to-door product deliveries. A lot of people were struggling mentally during the lockdown and I was happy that they could come to me to support me and that I could continue to help them.
I also used the containment time to work on a line of unique botanical and clean beauty products. The work on them is finished and I am now at the stage of raising investments.
What are your plans for the next 12 months?
I look forward to continuing to help my existing and new clients achieve healthy skin. I also look forward to launching my unique new line of skin care products and wellness supplements in 2022 and ensuring global retailers stock them. I am also looking forward to developing and expanding the business to another clinic in London.
