New Microsoft Acquisition to Help Customers Embrace the “Digital Work Life”

Microsoft hopes to lead the employee experience market with its new Viva platform, through its acquisition of the Ally goals and results tracking platform.

Microsoft has acquired software company Ally.io, which it plans to add to its employee experience platform, Microsoft Viva.

According to Kirk Koenigsbauer, Microsoft’s COO, the company acquired Ally as part of its plan to help customers “embrace the new digital work life.”

Terms of the deal between the tech giant and the Seattle startup have not been disclosed.

Since its inception three years ago, Ally has strived to help clients measure their progress against OKRs (Goals and Key Results). Its CEO, Vetri Vellore is a former Microsoft employee.

In a blog post, published yesterday (October 7), Koenigsbauer wrote: “Aligning employee work with the strategic mission and core business priorities is a priority for every organization… When teams see how they are making an impact, employees remain more engaged, focused and motivated to achieve both business growth and personal fulfillment.

He added that investing in transparency was particularly important, especially as the shift to hybrid ways of working had “made it more difficult to keep every leader, team and individual aligned and evolving at the same pace.”

He praised Ally for his work in providing customers with “visibility and clarity throughout the work process,” which he wrote has enabled companies to empower employees to track their goals. and strategic objectives.

Ally’s OKR platform will join Microsoft’s Viva employee experience platform. Over the next year or so, that will bring the business to Microsoft’s cloud as well. It will evolve the platform’s existing integrations with Microsoft Teams, integrating it into Office, Power BI, and the broader set of Microsoft 365 apps and services.

Ally is already integrated with other productivity tools, including Slack, Jira, Asana, and Smartsheet. It has more than 1,000 customers in 80 countries.

Microsoft’s acquisition of the company will give its Viva platform, which is only a few months old, a much needed boost in a market that includes major competitors like Zoom and Google.
